of the Palio

The Palio deserves a special mention.

It is one of the events closest to the hearts of the Sienese and a remarkable expression of the city’s history, traditions and identity. Twice a year, on 2 July and 16 August, the Contrade compete in an exhilarating race in Piazza del Campo, with the horses taking centre stage.


But the Palio is about much more than race days. Each Contrada has its own church, museum and social life that continues throughout the year.

For a member of a Contrada, it is truly a second family.

Casa Vacanze Il Campo is a small residence in Siena’s historic centre, in a truly central location, just 150 m from Piazza del Campo and a short walk from all the city’s main attractions and the university.


Reception is at Via Salicotto 73, in the Contrada della Torre, where you can immerse yourself in the spectacular pageantry of the Palio at any time of year.

Recently renovated and refurbished, Il Campo offers 9 charming apartments in a range of sizes, including options for groups.


Each apartment is named after one of the great horses that won the Palio and overlooks the Contrada della Torre and the Onda district. Comfortably furnished in Tuscan style, with exposed beams and joists, each features a fully equipped kitchen or living area with kitchenette, a bedroom and a private bathroom.
